1961 Aston Martin DB IV, Series 4

Presented here for your appreciation, inspection and consideration is this 1961 Aston Martin DB IV Series 4, chassis #DBIV/800L, 4 speed manual gearbox with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. This is a left hand drive example, turned out in Dorchester Blue with contrasting Magnolia hides with Navy piping. This fabulous example has been with the same Arizona owner for the past 21 years and has enjoyed a recent, ground up refurbishment.

The flawless alloy coachwork received a bare metal respray in Dorchester Blue, with special attention to exemplary panel fit and accurate shut lines. . All the brightwork was addressed and either refinished or polished.

Interior

The interior is a sight to behold, finished in Magnolia hides with a contrasting Navy piping and rare factory headrests. The custom fitted carpet in Navy, Wilton Wool, throughout. The recessed headlining is also done in leather. The instruments and fuel tank sender were rebuilt and converted to negative ground by West Coast Instruments. A period correct Phillips radio is nestled in the center stack. The original steering wheel was refurbished and the spokes polished. 

Engine

The original engine #370/824, was totally restored by Steel Wings, the noted Aston Martin experts in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and done up to 4.2 liter GT specifications, including the triple SU induction system (dyno results: Torque 289 ft lbs @ 4300 rpm & 285 hp @ 5600rpm). The exhaust manifolds have been Jet coated and the spent gasses exit through a dual, stainless steel exhaust system. An Alloy radiator and expansion tank are also fitted. Other interesting items are a gear reduction starter and a “spin on” oil filter.

The gearbox, #432/4/877 and overdrive unit, #28/304900213 were rebuilt by Kevin Kay Restorations, noted Aston Martin DB experts in Redding, California. Differential is a 3.54 limited slip . 

Additional Information

The brakes are equipped with stainless steel calipers, also by Kevin Kay Restorations. The front suspension is rebuilt using a powder coated suspension package by Harvey Bailey. The new 16” Dunlop, center lock, chrome plated, wire wheels, shod with Vredestein Radial tires and secured with triple eared knockoffs. Spare tire/wheel and jack included in the tidy boot. 

This particular, numbers matching, Aston Martin checks all the boxes as a highly sought after model, desirable color combination, manual overdrive gearbox, fresh, 10 mile restoration. Everything on this Aston functions as it should.
