Shelby 289 Cobra

Shelby Cobra, CSX-8001 , #1 Chassis for the Shelby 8000 continuation series. Coachwork hand hammered alloy panels over wooden bucks per the original Cobra, hand finished, polished to a high luster and contrasted with Black LeMans stripes to match the interior. The chassis is a jig welded ladder frame, constructed from 3" tubes and various cross members, plus the added rigidity of the FIA/Daytona Coupe tubular, reinforcing at the transmission tunnel area. All the suspension components and brakes are Shelby sourced per the original manufacturers.

The engine is a period correct 1965 Ford 289 "K" high performance, solid lifter example, fitted with 4 Weber 45 IDA carburetors on a Cobra intake manifold. The exhaust is routed through short proprietory tubular exhaust headers, with the mufflers mounted under the car and exiting in front of the rear wheels. The transmission is a Tremec, 5 speed manual with a Lakewood, safety "scattershield" bell housing. Power is transmitted through to the Salisbury limited slip differential. Wheels are 17" Halibrand style, pin drive, knock offs. shod with performance radial tires. Aluminum radiator and electric fan help keep things cool.

The interior includes black leather covered Cobra seats. Carpet is black wool and the dash has a full complement of era correct Stewart Warner instruments. The switch gear is original Lucas.

This Cobra sale includes all 'Foul Weather Gear', including a new, fitted vinyl top with new top bows, new side curtains, tonneau cover, Raydot mirrors, wind wings, spare tire and wheel. Included also are functioning wipers, heater and a discreetly hidden A/C unit with diffusers that are directed to the hot, non ventilated foot box areas. Also included is a compiled, 'history book' on the car featuring historical provenance, factory documents, inter office memos, production information, photos, etc. . . .all relating to this significant Cobra.

This is a Cobra that is exhilarating to drive, with a very balanced and nimble feel. The car drives, handles and stops like a true sports car should.

One very important detail. This 289 Cobra is registered, titled and insurer as a 1965 Shelby Cobra.
