Mechanically, the car really excells. The 6 cylinder engine runs very smooth and strong, with adequate power, and a sweet exhaust note, but without smoke or leaks. The cooling system is sound and the engine does not overheat. The troublesome, original, 4 speed, electric overdrive transmission, which has proven to be a point of frustration on the Big Healeys, has been upgraded with the installation of a Toyota 5 speed (Smitty brand upgrade). This modification makes this a real driver's car. The gearbox is quiet, the ratios are right and the shifting is smooth and precise.
The brakes utilize cross drilled front rotors with rebuilt hydraulics. The remote vacuum brake servo functions well and decreases the pedal effort for smooth brake execution. The rear brake drums are chrome plated and dazzle behind the triple chrome plated wire wheels with new performance radial tires. This Healey has logged only 126 miles since the restoration was completed. This roadster runs and drives well and displays excellent road manners. It is well sorted with no loose ends or nagging issues. The accessories included with the car are the jack and spare, black tonneau and storage bag and owners manual.
