When it comes to shopping for an affordable British Sports Car, the MGB roadster is always a consideration. The most desirable and sought after of these iconic roadsters are the early, pre ’75 “B” models. After 1975 the EPA mandated larger, rubber impact bumpers which also made it necessary to raise the attitude of the car to meet the bumper height standards. The later models also suffered from a decrease in performance with the demise of the dual carburetors and the introduction of power robbing emission controls.
Offered here for sale, in excellent condition, is a ’74 MGB roadster (vin: GHN5UE371464) finished in bright Red with black interior and top . This was he last year for the stylish chrome bumpers. This MGB is equipped with the rare overdrive transmission option.
The paint and body are in very good condition with no rust or evidence of previous body damage. Very good panel fit and closing gaps. The black interior is in excellent condition, including the seats, door panels, carpet, dash and instruments. The black convertible atop is in good condition with a clear back lite. The glass is all in good condition.
The engine runs well and carries good oil pressure and good compression across all 4 cylinders. The engine does not smoke or leave oil drips on the ground. This model was the last MGB model fitted with the dual SU carburetors.
The clutch engagement is smooth and the overdrive transmission shifts well with no excessive oil leaks or strange noises.
This particular MGB sports a black roll bar for safety and has just benefited from brake hydraulic work, a new SU electric fuel pump, and an engine tune up.
