1961 Lotus Elite, series I

1961 Lotus Elite, series I, coupe.  (Lotus 14), serial #:  PXEA1193.    This was Colin Chapman’s entry into the all weather,  production, enthusiast ,  sports car market.  The Elite was inovative as the first production automobile to utilize full glass fibre monocoque construction. 

This stunning example,  produced on March 30, 1960, is  turned out in Periwinkle Blue with a complimenting, supple,  Tan leather interior, has the original, numbers matching, 1.2 litre Coventry Climax engine coupled to period correct 4 speed manual gearbox.  A  set of  4  new radial tires, mounted on the original, restored argent painted wire wheels. 

The car  runs and drives very well.  At a curb weight of only 1110 pounds, the power to weight ratio and balance makes this an exhillerating car to drive.  This is one of  the earliest production sports cars to feature 4 wheel independent suspension.  It has recently benifitted from a new water pump, fan, engine tune and full chassis service.

This car is very desirable on many levels. It is eligable for most vintage motoring events. Basically  a handbuilt car.  It is very unique and fun to drive. The total production run for the Lotus Elite from 1958 through 1963 was only 1030 units.
